The AI study tutor: what it is, its limits, and your privacy
How the organization AI tutor works: who has it, the daily question limits, why it refuses during quizzes, and what happens to your questions.
What it does
The AI study tutor is a floating helper for organization members. It knows which lesson, case study, model, or simulator page you are reading and answers questions to help you understand THAT topic, in everyday words, concepts first.
It is available when your organization has "Allow AI study help" turned on (the recommended default). Personal accounts outside an organization do not see it.
The limits, and why
Each person gets a daily question allowance (your organization sets it; 30 questions per day is the default) so one person cannot use up everyone’s capacity. A site-wide daily cap protects the service as a whole. When you hit a limit, the tutor says so and resets the next day.
The tutor is hard-blocked on quizzes and tests, client-side and server-side. Asking it for graded answers anywhere gets a polite refusal and a concept explanation instead: the tutor helps you understand, never completes graded work for you.
Your privacy
Questions and the page context (the lesson title and an excerpt) are processed to generate the answer, with per-day usage counts kept for the limits. Prompts are not used to train models. The AI provider appears on the Trust page’s subprocessor list, and the AI terms live in the Terms of Service and, for organizations, the signed agreements.
It is educational software, not an advisor: nothing it says is legal, tax, or investment advice.
For administrators
Org admins control the tutor in Settings: turn it on or off for the whole organization and set the per-person daily limit. Usage stays visible so you can see it is being used reasonably.
