Default Alive
Loopdesk is default dead.
Appointment scheduling for salons and clinics: $6,200 MRR, two founders on ramen salaries, $55,000 in the bank. Eleven months.
Every month, $6,200 comes in and $11,200 goes out. That’s the whole exam: does MRR outrun burn before the cash hits zero? Growth costs money today and pays revenue on a lag. Churn today is a verdict on the product from months ago. Annual prepay moves cash through time but never creates it. Underneath every decision is Paul Graham’s question (default alive or default dead), and right now the answer is dead, with a date on it.
Every year plays out differently: different situations knock, with different numbers attached. But there’s no luck in the outcomes: once a situation is on screen, every consequence follows from the numbers shown and the state you built. If Loopdesk crosses the line in November, that was you. If payroll bounces in September — that was also you, four decisions earlier, back when the runway number still looked survivable.
