Quarters
You just bought a 14-machine vending route.
The listing said "passive income." The seller seemed like a man in a hurry.
Fourteen machines, already placed, already earning. The listing used the word "passive" four times. Here’s what it didn’t itemize: every machine is a tiny landlord-tenant relationship, and you’re the tenant. Sites churn, compressors die, product expires, commissions ratchet, and somebody drives the route every week with a van full of chips and a coin bucket. That somebody is now you.
Twelve months, one decision each. Underneath runs the platform’s usual math: margin per vend, route density, capex versus cash, slow variables that bill you later. None of it is luck: once a situation is on screen, every consequence follows from the numbers shown and the route you’ve built. If "passive" ends up meaning "profitable," that was you. If it ends up meaning "unmanaged" — that was also you, one skipped restock at a time.
